Studio Swine : Sustainable Eyewear

In an attempt to create sustainable products, UK-based design company, Studio Swine has released ‘Hair Glasses.’ These sunglasses are produced totally out of sustainable materials. The glasses’ frames are 100% biodegradable and no harmful substances are release into the atmosphere during production. In an attempt to explore how the booming production of hair extensions can be expanded and modified to suit the environment, Studio Swine embarked on what is becoming a major hit amongst the environmentally-conscious fashion crowd. Visually, what is nice about these glasses is each pair of glasses has a unique look. The slight wood grain/tortoise shell frames are quite popular right now. Brands like Linda Farrow, Alexander Wang, and Rye Lye have created some really interesting spin-offs of the traditional horn-rimmed sunglasses.

Horn-rimmed sunglasses (which were conventionally tortoise shell until people opted for the look and not the actual turtle shell) are slowly becoming the new standard again. I’ve come across a multitude of different textures and my two favorites would have to be the cream matte tortoise shell optical lenses by Prism London and Studio Swine’s sepia and peach butterfly styled glasses.
